Demosthenes Kouvarakis – the creator of Juicy Grill – is something of a legend in the world of burgers: customers call him by his little name, competitors admire him, foodies bug him for tips on how to make a burger as delicious as his. A position that he deservedly won, since as they say the only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.
The first Juicy Grill opened its doors in 2011 – a time when one store after another was locked – in the most “off broadway” neighborhood of Holargos, with a small shop in a small alley that did not catch your eye . The invincible, delightful taste of his burgers was transmitted like an emergency bulletin by word of mouth and created a “domino” effect resulting in a very short time the (long) queues waiting to become a daily, typical image from its opening until closing at night. A natural consequence was to move to a larger, renewed space – also in Holargos – in 2019.
What established Juicy Grill in the consciousness of the public as the number 1 burger restaurant in Athens is the experimentation and the creative playfulness in the use of the ingredients of our favorite comfort food. Colors, textures and ideas are uniquely fused to a result that turns blinks an eye to the term gourmet and transforms the daily snack to other levels. The starting point is the perfect meat, kneaded in-house daily, to be “married” with exotic cheeses such as tallegio, raclette and provolone, “heretical” ingredients such as chorizo, mac & cheese and smoked pancetta and to be “embraced” by bagels, buns with garlic butter, etc.
Having secured the top spot, Juicy Grill has recently turned its gaze to the Athenian center, to introduce even more people to the ultimate burger and to create the most delicious “coordinate” for foreign and Greek audiences. Just opposite the busy Klafthmonos Square – on the pedestrian street of Old Patras Germanou – you will be able to experience cries of ecstasy and delicious nirvana!
The aura of the space marries the industrial with the evergreen, with exposed concrete, industrial lighting, large wood surfaces and a verdant decoration, while it is surrounded by glass surfaces that take advantage of the natural light, and at the same time connect the visitors with the rhythm of the center. The kitchen is open and everything is set up in the most absolute transparency, at a distance of centimeters from your gaze. Upon entering you will see the refrigerators that host microbreweries on the left. Care – weather and coronavirus permitting – has been given to the outdoor area that will accommodate table seats.
Some of the all time classic choices, are Donald Pank, with beef burger, panko, portobello mushroom, monterey jack cheese, double bacon, chipotle aioli mayo, iceberg and tomato, Dirty Mama, with beef burger, roasted onions, tomato, parmesan, egg and mama’s sauce and the supreme Sweet Cordita with a “fortified” beef burger 250 gr., raclette cheese, double bacon, avocado, fried egg, sweet potato chips and sweet chili mayo. Burgers-to-lick-your-fingers (which you will do because the burger is eaten by hand). If you are not into red meat, an option on the “Anything But Beef” section of the menu will compensate you, with options like Hello My Friend with fried chicken fillet breaded with panko, mozzarella parmesan, red sauce, pepperoni, Insider with pork chop breaded with panko, stuffed with mozarella, and our vegeterian comrades will love the Farmers Market , with chickpea burger, peas, baby spinach, tomato, eggplant bacon, vegan cheese, lime vegan mayo.
For the sweetest ending, try their unique NY Cheesecake , which in fact is rotated daily with new flavors, such as snickers, lemon blueberry, classic with strawberry, blueberry or raspberry jam, chocolate, etc. Nom nom!
